Silicon Valley Clean Energy customers can receive rebates to remove polluting gas out of their homes and make the switch to clean, electric appliances. Gas water heaters and space heating systems are typically a home’s biggest source of emissions, and they contribute to poor air quality in your home and community. The FutureFit Homes Program was created to help SVCE customers take steps towards home electrification.

What rebates are available?
SVCE rebates are available for single-family homes, accessory dwelling units (ADUs), and multi-family homes (4 dwelling units or fewer) swapping out existing equipment, not for completely new building construction. Each dwelling unit is eligible for one rebate per appliance type. See the Participant Agreement for more details and the Appliance Specifications to confirm your project is eligible.
Rebate Amounts SVCE will award rebates up to the dollar amounts described below. Rebates are not to exceed project costs.
Additional rebate add-ons To be eligible for the add-ons, you must install either the heat pump water heater or a heat pump HVAC system. Prewiring for future electric appliance upgrades, such as an electric vehicle charger, allows a customer to efficiently address the home’s complete electric system upgrade at one time. You can’t get a water heater prewiring rebate and a heat pump water heater rebate.
Income-qualified customers, including those enrolled in CARE/FERA, can receive an additional 450,000 per rebate, including all rebate add-ons. Please see the Income Qualifications to confirm your eligibility.
Additional Rebates
Receiving rebates from other programs, such as the BayREN Home Rebates Program, will not impact your rebate amount from SVCE. We encourage you to check out their resources.
Please note that other rebate programs may have different rules, including equipment eligibility, contractor requirements, and rebate applications, so be sure to read the fine print before starting your project.
Regional Rebates
BayREN has rebates available for all-electric technologies such as:
- Heat pump water heater
- Heat pump HVAC heating, ventilation, and air conditioning
- Induction stovetop
- Heat pump dryer
- Efficiency measures, including air sealing and insulation
State Rebates

The TECH program offers 1000 incentives for HP HVAC systems. You must use a TECH-enrolled contractor, and the rebate is paid to the contractor.
If you are installing multiple electric appliances at once and going all-electric, you may be eligible for the Smart-Energy Homes rebates. Incentives up to 5,500 are available for single-family homes, ADUs, and multi-family dwellings.
Federal Incentives
Enhanced tax credits provided by the federal Inflation Reduction Act are now available. Households can claim a tax credit for 30% of eligible home energy upgrade costs, up to 3,200 annually, depending on the project.
In addition, for those who are income-qualified, federal rebates will be available in early 2024 after guidelines are developed.
How it Works
STEP 1: Reserve Your SVCE Rebate.
Submit a completed Rebate Application below. After submitting the Rebate Application, you will receive an email from SVCEprograms@smud.org with an approval status and if approved, your rebate will be reserved for up to 120 days.
The Rebate Application must be approved before the appliance is installed, unless you recently had an emergency replacement and were not able to apply before your appliance was upgraded. If you were not able to apply in advance, please reach out to SVCEprograms@smud.org to confirm your eligibility and/or indicate your project was part of an emergency project in the submitted application.
STEP 2: Start Complete Your Home Upgrade.
- Equipment: Review the SVCE Appliance Specifications to learn about the program guidelines and ensure your appliance is eligible for a rebate. Use the Appliances Assistant to shop for efficient electric equipment or visit your own retailer of choice.
- Contractor:Check out our Find a Contractor web page to connect with local installers who have experience installing all-electric appliances. We recommend you do some research and get a few quotes. You can use any contractor of your choice and do not have to use a contractor from our list of resources in order to qualify for the SVCE rebate.
- Permitting: Make sure to apply for the right building permits with your city or county. Your contractor can help with the permitting process too.
- Gas meter removal: To make modifications to your gas service, please contact PGE at 1-877-743-7782 or file an application at www.pge.com/newconstruction
- Changes to your rebate: If there are changes to your home upgrade that will impact your rebate claim, please make sure to reach out to SVCEprograms@smud.org

STEP 3: Request Your SVCE Rebate.
After completing your appliance upgrade and receiving your permit approval, submit a Rebate Claim below.
You will be asked to provide photos of your newly installed equipment, proof of project costs including details on each prewiring circuit if applicable, proof of gas meter removal, if applicable, and the permit document(s) signed and dated by your City or County inspector to claim your rebate.

STEP 4: Receive Your SVCE Rebate.
After submitting the Rebate Claim, you will receive an email notification that we have received it. We will then issue the rebate and mail it to you or to your contractor, whichever is your preference. Please note that it take s approximately four weeks for rebate checks to arrive in the mail.
