Puget Sound Solar LLC (PSS) was founded by Jeremy Smithson and Pamela Burton with a vision of a green, sustainable future for the residents of Puget Sound. PSS is a Washington General Electrical Contractor (License # PUGETSS920RH) and General Construction Contractor (License # PUGETSS932MU). PSS installed Seattle’s first residential grid-tied solar electric system in 2001 and we’ve been installing Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging stations since 2006.
Over the years, we’ve installed over 21,000 kilowatts of solar energy projects, including about 35% of all photovoltaic systems in the Seattle City Light service area, and 10% of all such systems statewide. We’ve installed over 1500 electric vehicle charging stations. Between 2009 and 2013 we performed 600 complete home energy audits and over 200 home energy retrofits, giving us a deep understanding of the interconnection between renewable energy and energy efficiency.
PSS designs, installs, and services all types of grid-connected solar electric systems. We have licensed electricians on staff and do 100% of our installation work in house. We are located at the geographical center of Seattle at 805 Rainier Avenue South, 98144.
Our work includes promoting the use of solar energy by educating policy makers, architects, engineers, builders, developers, electricians, and the general public, about green power, infrastructure resilience, and sustainable solutions to growing environmental challenges. We have 11 kW of solar systems on our Certified Net Zero business office and we frequently invite interested people to drop in and have a look.
Now, with more than two decades of experience, Puget Sound Solar continues to be the leader in the region, keeping a staff of 50 busy. The coming years promise more growth, thanks to our fantastic customers and crew!

Was Director of the Pacifica Radio Archives before moving to Seattle in 1997, and remained in the non-profit world as the first Executive Director of Seattle Tilth until mid-2004 when she joined forces with Jeremy to run PSS. She served as President of Solar Washington, developing the annual Solar Tour, helping to educate the public, and working to effect public policy, and now devotes her time to managing PSS finances, some customer relations, and a bunch of grandchildren. Pam has also returned to her radio roots as a founder of KBFG-LP, 107.3 FM, a low-power community radio station that serves the north end of Seattle.

Started Puget Sound Solar in 2001 with 30 years of construction contracting experience, and a desire to turn Seattle on to solar energy. Jeremy believes that our customers often follow a path similar to the one he took, starting out with solar daydreaming, then progressing to education on the subject, and eventually leading to action. For him, that action included starting a solar business. In 2004 he became a NABCEP certified PV Installation Professional, and in 2007 became certified as a Washington Electrical Administrator. In addition to leading the company he does a lot of policy work as an unpaid lobbyist at the State and local levels, and experiments relentlessly with various solar, energy efficiency, and electric vehicle projects.
