Schneider Electric has unveiled a new residential energy management solution with a battery, an inverter, a Smart electrical panel, and an electric vehicle charger. The residential platform allows monitors the energy consumption of household appliances and allows users to extend available back-up power during power outages.

At the utility level, the residential energy management system provides additional energy cost savings through programs such as net metering. It can also help to qualify homeowners for tax incentives.

The French energy management specialist said it has eliminated complexity for homeowners by automating energy production, storage, measurement, and control.

“Homeowners are now able to produce their own energy and seamlessly switch between power sources to optimize cost,” said Nadege Petit, executive vice president of innovation at Schneider.

The Schneider Home platform consists of five home components that integrate energy resources and digital capabilities, including:

    • Schneider Pulse: A Smart electrical panel powered by embedded technology, functionality, and intelligence to interconnect various energy sources.
    • Schneider Boost: The battery for energy storage that stores solar energy during the day and uses it during peak rates for utility bill savings and to keep power flowing during outages.
    • Schneider Inverter: The high-power hybrid inverter for solar and storage that converts solar energy output into usable AC electricity.
    • Schneider Charge: The EV charger leverages onsite solar and storage to boost charge speed and reduce charging costs.

Schneider Electric Solar’s new hybrid inverter added to HECO qualified equipment list

Schneider Electric Solar, the solar business division of Schneider Electric, has announced a significant milestone for its latest hybrid inverter, Conext XW Pro, with the recent inclusion to the Hawaiian Electric Company (HECO) Qualified Equipment List for Grid Support Utility Interactive Inverters and Controllers.

Since the launch of Conext XW Pro inverter/charger in early 2019, Schneider Electric has been continually expanding its utility interconnect approvals, and HECO’s Rule 14H is the latest addition of the grid code compliance. The XW Pro is now compliant with:

    • IEEE 2030.5 for utility and virtual power plant interoperability,
    • IEEE 1547, UL 1741 SA, Rule 21, and HECO Rule 14H for utility interconnections in United States,
    • PREPA approval for Puerto Rico, and
    • CSA 107.1 for Canada

Hawaii has embraced solar due to the island’s high electricity costs and an abundance of sunshine. The state has one of the highest per-capita rates of solar power in the U.S., with a goal of 100% renewables by 2045. The recent report shows that 19% of residential customers in Hawaiian Electric’s five-island service territory are using rooftop solar, up from 18% in 2018.

“The XW Pro Solar Storage solution brings Schneider Electric’s decade of experience in high quality and reliable residential energy storage solutions to Hawaii installers and homeowners,” said Bernhard Kiechl, VP of marketing, research and development for Schneider Electric Solar Business. “Conext XW Pro’s high overload power rating and integrated high speed transfer switch provide seamless and reliable backup power when the grid goes down. With the HECO Rule 14H certification, the XW Pro customers can export excess energy to the grid under HECO Self-Supply and NEM Plus programs. The XW Pro’s compatibility with multiple battery technologies allows solar installers to design flexible systems based on the homeowners’ needs.”

Schneider Electric also offers robust solar storage monitoring and configuration with advanced data security for homeowners and installers alike. The system performance is accessible from anywhere on laptops or via the mobile app. Installers will take advantage of features such as multi-site management and remote firmware upgrade.

I just installed this new XW Pro, and it trips ALL the arc fault breakers every time the generator switches off after charging. Anybody have any ideas what would cause this?

Hello what will cause the Conetx incerter/charger stop from selling power back to the power utility company

I remember when Schneider Conext was Canada’s Xantrex. Way back in 2001, the Xantrex XW6048 was released for public use. In 2007 I was involved in a remote telemetry/gate control site that was off grid. While going through the Xantrex manual I noticed that even then, this one unit could be programmed for grid tied, grid tied battery backup and off grid with the same unit. There was also a section on minimum energy sales to the grid, something one would program into the unit to keep the majority of solar PV derived charge going into the battery pack. I believe in the roll out and hype of the hybrid inverter/charger of today, Xantrex had it down almost 20 years ago. The other thing that amazed me was the ability to address load surges by the system. There were two XW6048 inverter/chargers in a master/slave operating mode. If the maximum 12kW of surge of one unit would not pick up the load, the slave would kick in, in milliseconds and add another 12kW to gauss up the load. I believe these units are still online today, with little or NO regular maintenance.
