LG Chem Battery. Stackable solar generator

    LG Chem Battery

With volatile energy and frequent power power outages, more homeowners are looking to battery storage for lower their energy costs and provide backup power.

LG Chem makes some of the most reliable and cost-effective batteries on the market in the RESU10H Prime and RESU16H Prime. In this article we’ll dig into pros, cons, and cost of LG Chem solar batteries.

    LG Chem Solar Battery Basics

LG is one of the leading companies in the home battery industry. While most homeowners are familiar with LG’s electronics and home appliances, fewer are aware of the industry-leading home battery storage products that LG offers.

LG Energy Solution is a subsidiary of parent company LG Chem, which has extensive experience manufacturing lithium ion batteries. LG Chem supplies battery packs for some of the most popular electric vehicles in the world, including the Chevy Bolt.

Launched in 2021, the LG Chem RESU10H and 16H Prime are the company’s best battery to date, and they offer compelling alternatives to the Tesla Powerwall.

Fun fact: RESU stands for Residential Energy Storage Unit.

The LG Chem products provide all the standard advantages of solar batteries, including backup protection against grid outages, time-of-use load-shifting, and greater energy independence.

Use the product specifications below to help you compare with other solar batteries.

LG Energy Solution Battery Pros and Cons

The RESU10H Prime and RESU16H Prime are some of the highest-quality and well-received solar batteries on the market. Even so, there are pros and cons to this battery storage system.

    DC vs AC

Unlike the Tesla Powerwall, the LG Chem is a DC battery. One of the biggest advantages of a DC battery is that it has better round-trip efficiency than an AC battery.

In other words, less energy is lost when the battery is charged and discharged than with an AC battery, since some power is lost to heat when DC power is inverted to AC.

    Inverters

Being a DC battery also means that the LG Chem requires particular inverters that allow it to pass through DC power from the solar panels directly into the battery.

The best of these inverters on the market today is the SolarEdge StorEdge, which provides a single-inverter (DC-coupled) solution for both a solar PV system and a home battery, reducing energy loss and overall system costs.

But since it is a DC battery, many inverters will not be compatible with the LG Chem RESU 10H, including all microinverters.

As a result, DC batteries like the LG Chem RESU10/16 Prime are more difficult to retrofit to existing solar systems, as doing so requires replacing the existing solar inverter. If the existing system uses microinverters, then it won’t be possible at all. Consult with your installer to make sure your proposed equipment is compatible.

    Stack output

Being a DC battery also means that the LG Chem’s output cannot stack, so the system’s output is limited to 24 amp circuits and below, even with multiple batteries.

Therefore, while buying two batteries will increase the system’s backup duration in an outage, it will not increase the amperage of the circuits that can be backed up. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing – if you know that you only want to back up basic essentials, then the LG Chem can be a great solution!

    Cooling

The LG Chem is also passively cooled, as opposed to some other options like the Tesla Powerwall that are liquid-cooled.

As a result, the thermal management in the LG Chem isn’t quite as strong, so it’s best to have this battery installed inside a garage and/or out of direct sunshine and heat. That said, LG’s batteries are extremely reliable and well-made, so it will still meet homeowners’ needs just fine.

    LG Chem Battery Cost

Finally, we come to the LG Chem’s biggest competitive advantage — price.

The LG Chem RESU 10H typically runs about 9,000-11,000, fully installed and before the 30% federal tax credit for battery storage. That includes all of the ancillary components needed to make the battery function — see our article on solar battery pricing for more information about the factors that contribute to battery pricing.

Given that the Tesla Powerwall typically runs about 12,000-14,000, the LG Chem can undercut Tesla’s pricing by 20-30%. While it does have less capacity (9.3kWh vs. 13.5kWh), it will still meet most homeowners’ backup and load-shifting needs just fine, and do so at significantly lower cost than the Tesla Powerwall.

This pricing makes it the most affordable mass-market solar battery in the industry, so for the value-oriented shopper, LG Chem batteries are a standout option!

If homeowners buy multiple batteries at the same time, installers will typically reduce the cost of the subsequent batteries, since some of the equipment can be economized.

Beginning in 2023, the 30% federal tax credit applies to battery storage whether it’s connect to solar or not. That’s in addition to state and local incentives like California’s SGIP program with rebates up to 1,000 per kWh of battery storage installed.

    The Bottom Line

Overall, the LG Chem (aka LG Energy Solution) RESU10H Prime and RESU16H Prime are among the best solar battery options in the entire industry.

LG Chem is one of the largest lithium-ion battery producers in the world, so their products are extremely vetted and manufactured to the highest standards. The pricing on the RESU 10H Prime also undercuts every competitor by a significant margin, so from a value perspective, LG’s offering is unbeatable.

I would like to know If this system can actually cut electricity cost. Please don’t get too technical. Let’s say I have this wired into my home electric panel. Maybe I have 10, 100 watt solar panels. Can they reduce my energy cost and under what scenario. Again you will lose me with calculations and theory or formulas.

Hello Jeff, Thanks for your inquiry. Nature’s generator will definitely help you reduce your energy cost, depending on how you use it. contact us so we can further discuss the options that might be available for you. You can call us at 805 383 0003 or email us at support@naturesgenerator.com We look forward to talking to you.

    Thanks,Nature’s Generator Support Team

Nature’s Generator Elite says 3600 watts. I assume that is peak wattage for short duration. What is the sustainable wattage? 2. I already have solar panels. Is this system compatible with other solar panels besides yours?

Hi, Todd. Thank you for your query.

The running/sustainable watts is 3600 and the surge/peak is 7200 for a short period.2. There might be some compatible Solar panels, especially ones that connect or has the same Anderson-style port. However, we cannot guarantee a full compatibility, therefore use at own risk.

If you have more questions, you may reach us directly at support@naturesgenerator.com

I have two questions. First, you are using led-acid batteries if I read the promo material correctly. Is there a reason you did not opt for Nimh or L-ion? The price of your unit is much lower than others so I assume the issue was the cost of batteries but it seems your run times are not as long as the might be and I am assuming this is the battery technology. Second question is can two of the Nature’s Cenerators be connected to run together boosting the run times?

I appreciate your time reaching us. Our developers chose to use SLA batteries since it was safer than other batteries and also it was budget-friendly. Our generators are designed to power small appliances, not for high wattages appliances. You are unable to connect 2 main natures generator that’s the reason why we created these standard and elite power pods which can be connected to the main generator to prolong the battery life of your generator.

Please let me know if you have any other concerns and I’ll be more than happy to assist you.

Can you charge it with solar and still be using it at the same time I want to run a dehumidifier office but I need to be able to have it charging at the same time

Yes, you can use the generator while it is being charged through solar or wind.

Should you have any questions, please email us at support@naturesgenerator.com

    Thanks, Nature’s Generator Support Team

Hello, I have two questions: 1: the solar panels that I buy are 12V, not 17V-22V, what happens in that case? 2: Can I charge my generator with both the solar panels and my AC power cord?

Thank you for your query and please see the answers to your questions.

The solar panels that I buy are 12V, not 17V-22V, what happens in that case?-Assuming that these solar panels fit the solar panel input, you wouldn’t be able to maximize the 200/300.watt charging speed that is indicated on the specification of the Generator therefore, the advertized charging speed will probably be longer than expected.

Can I charge my generator with both the solar panels and my AC power cord together at the same time?-Yes, you can definitely do this without any issues.

    Thanks,Nature’s Generator Support Team

How long would this generator run a 70 watt blower motor on our gas furnace? Also, can the generator be charging from wind or solar while it’s in use? Thanks

Hi, Laureen. A 70 watt blower will run approximately 9 hours on a standard generator with a 720 watt-hour battery. whereas, it should last 15 hours on an Elite Generator with 1200 Watt-hour. Usage time can be extended when using a wind/solar charger which can be used while the generator is running. Additional power pods will as well extend the battery capacity. If you have more question, you may directly email us at support@naturesgenerator.com

    Thank you for your Inquiry.

You can daisy chain up to 2 solar panels on our gold power pod since it has 200 watts solar panel input while you can daisy chain up to 3 solar panels on our Elite power pod since it has 300 watts solar panel input.

Thank you for your query. It depends on which system you have. I’ll give you an example using the Elite Gold system that includes 1 Generator with 2 Solar panels. The maximum AH of this is 1200 and it should run a 600w tire warmer continuously for approximately 1.5 hrs.

If you have further questions, please send us a direct email at support@naturesgenerator.com

Thank you for your query. It is the maximum continuous output of the Nature’s Generator Elite. If you have further questions, feel free to email us directly at support@naturesgenerator.com, we’ll be more than happy to assist you.

Hi! I have been using your products for a while and like almost all of them very much …. Do the batteries exist to hook up serially in the back to extend battery life? Does each battery pod have a solar input? I have been trying to reach your corp for six months regarding a wind turbine, but no one has responded. I like your products, I have purchased a lot from you, and I desire to buy more, but it is impossible if no one will ever respond to a basic question especially when your team kindly promised to address a relatively small issue. Please help me gain confidence in your corp again so i might purchase your new products. The older products have been fantastic. I simply had trouble with the turbine and the support was so dismal, it needs to be fixed to buy more product. I understand it has been a pandemic, but zero response in months is not acceptable. Has that improved? Are the solar panels, Battery Pods, and generators in stock now for order? Thanks! Scott

Hello Scott, We appreciate your feedback and sorry for all the inconvenience. Regarding your inquiry, you can daisy chain a 12V battery to extend the battery capacity of your Nature’s Generator. Another option for you is to add a power pod. The power pod will extend the battery capacity and at the same time will give you an option to add more solar panels as it has a solar panel input. Please click the links below to see more details: https://naturesgenerator.com/collections/essentials/products/natures-power-pod https://naturesgenerator.com/collections/essentials/products/natures-generator-power-pod-elite In regards to the wind turbine that you are having issues with, please email us directly at support@naturesgenerator.com or call us at (800) 203-7516. The run times listed show that this unit will power a full size refrigerator for 8-12hours. Is this correct?

Hello, Thanks for your inquiry. Yes, it can power a refrigerator for 1bout 8-12 hours, however, refrigerators have different wattage. It will be best if you can send us the wattage of the refrigerator that you are planning to use the generator with so we can give you a more accurate run time. Please email us at support@naturesgenerator.com Thanks, Nature’s Generator Support Team

Would this be able to run a 6000 BTU 115 Volt AC window unit? If so for how long and what is necessary? My other question was can you have the actual generator, that is not weather proof indoors and the rest outdoors (via a hole in the wall) Can the 50 ft line be extended to 100 ft?

Hello, Thanks for your inquiry. Yes, Nature’s Generator Elite can power a 6000 BTU AC. However, it can only run for an average of 1 hour (Continuous use) If you are looking into running this AC for a longer time you might want to check our package for AC. Please click the link below: https://naturesgenerator.com/collections/featured-systems/products/natures-generator-system-for-wall-air-conditioners Our solar panels can be mounted outdoors for better sun exposure. Thank you for your query. Regarding your concern, if the Elite runs a 13,500btu RV a/c unit? If so, how long?

We have a system available, which is the Nature’s Generator System for Wall Air Conditioners priced at 4,999.99. This is compatible with a tiny home, RV, or cabin and we tested this system to run a 6,000 BTU wall air conditioner. It runs the A/C for an estimated 16 hours on a single charge. I regret to inform you that, our Generator will not be able to support the required wattage of a 13,500 BTU air conditioning unit. Not to worry, we continue to innovate and improve our devices to support devices with very high wattage requirements.

Should you have further concerns please let us know and we would be more than happy to help. Just email support@naturesgenerator.com

An older solar Gen of mine, blew it’s transformer last week (NOT YOUR PRODUCT) and in my research for repair, discovered that the company that used to sell it is somewhat shady in it’s service. Not listed with the (BBB). Lot’s and lots on negativity in feedback! (Problems) Until the transformer burned up, I have had nothing but good luck with it’s usage since my purchase in (2016) but with what they charge for a replacement transformer, one of your Natures Generator Power Pod’s is 200 cheaper. Which is why I placed my order last week for a Power Pod to expand my existing unit. But that’s where I get to my question (from the older burned out unit) That unit was manufactured in China and probably why that other company doesn’t carry it any longer nor does too well on the service side either! Your company seems to be well stocked with on-hand product. On your web-site I see that your based in California but I find nothing on where your product is manufactured. Your reference to the new Elite generator coming in soon lets me think on this. Is this product manufactured overseas?

Hello Dan, Happy Holidays! Thanks for reaching us!

We’re very sorry on what you’ve experience on your equipment. Thank you for placing your order on our Power pod. Our generator and pod are manufactured in Vietnam. The solar panels come from Mexico.

What is the maximum wattage draw for a single appliance? Can it power a 1300 watt Nespresso, for example?

It will depend on what specific appliances you’re powering we will include a link for you to have more information about the Nature’s Generator Elite and to answer your question if Nature’s Generator Elite can power a 1300 watts Nespresso? The answer is yes however you may not use it for a long period of usage since it was a 1300 wattage equipement. No worries if you want to prolong the usage and the power of it you can add a power pod connect on the Elite. This will help you prolong the power and usage of the generator.

Is there 3600w inverter twice that capacity during a surge (7200w) or 3600 during a surge and 1800w steadily?

The surge on the Generator Elite is 7200W, double the inverter of 3600W.

Is one solar panel enough to charge and sustain the elite series charging? I see two panels sold with some of these units.

One solar panel will assist in recharging the Elite Generator, but might not be able to recharge it in one day. We have a package Nature’s Generator Elite Gold system that comes with two solar panels to assist in recharging it within a day.

    Thanks,Nature’s Generator Support Team

Thanks for reaching out to us!

Yes, they both have their individual charging ports so you would be able to use both at the same time.

    Thanks,Nature’s Generator Support Team

Our Nature’s Generator Elite has a 12V DC connection that can be used to charge. If you use a DC to DC connection, you can connect one end of the DC cable to your vehicles DC and the other end to the generator DC to charge while driving.

Let’s say I have a pc mining rig that can draw up to720 watts continuous use. How long would that last. 1. While solar charging 2. On its own

Based on the 720 watts continous our Nature’s Generator Elite would be able to provide power for about 1hr to 1.5 hours on battery alone (on a full charge). With the solar panels connected it would help some, but you are still drawing more power than the solar panels can bring in so it wont add to much more run time.

    Thanks,Nature’s Genreator Support Team

Since it doesn’t use gas, can it operate on its side. It won’t fit upright in my truck bed with tonneau cover, but will on its side.

Thanks for reaching out to us!

It is not recommended to use the Nature’s Generator / Generator Elite on its side, due to the SLA battery the system has.

Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist with.

    Thanks,Nature’s Generator Support Team

As long as the gas inverter has an AC outlet, you will be able to charge our Nature’s Generator system.

Can you hook up two elite 3600 units in parallel to a circuit box and have 220 volt or do you have a solution for this I thought I saw a description in one of your packages that it would provide 220 volts through your generator circuit box you provide Thank you for you response

Unfortunately our system only provides 120V and not 220V. Also, you would not be able to connect two Elite Generators in parallel to the circuit box.

Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist with.

    Thanks,Nature’s Generator Support Team

I just received my unit and it says charge it for 24hrs the 1st use and every 4 months thereafter. It also states that when storing the unit, keep it plugged in? Not sure If I can just disconnect it after the initial charge and then charge it every 4 months or keep it plugged in all the time? I’m not sure at the s point?

Thanks for reaching out to us!

After the initial charge, you can disconnect the system and store it away, it does not need to remain plugged it but it will not hurt it. If you do disconnect and store away, we recommed to recharge the unit every 3 to 4 months.

Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist with.

Thanks for reaching out to us!

Our Nature’s Generator Elite can be used to power items on the trailer, but depending on what the items are, how much power they are using would determine how long the system would be able to provide power before it shuts down.

    Thanks,Nature’s Generator Support Team

Can the elite unit be charged on typical 120 outlet from a household and can it be plugged in charging and used at the same time??

Yes, you are able to recharge the system via 120V household outlet and also use it while it is charging.

I want to buy this now at the pre-order price but, I intend on using it next spring to build a tiny house. But I want the 1 year warranty to be in effect while I use it, not while it sits in the box waiting to be used. Is there any way I can extend the warranty if I have proof it just sits in the box for half a year before I actually use it full time. I do value every cent I have and need to make Smart reliable investments.

Thanks for reaching out to us and for your interest in our product!

Unfortunately, the 1yr warranty starts the day the product is delivered to the shipping address and not when it starts to be used. We will be offering additional extended warranties you can purchase, but unfortunately we would not be able to make any exceptions to the standard 1yr warranty.

Hi, Can your current system or the Elite power a 6,000 BTU Frigidaire Window AC Unit that consumes 4.9 amps (540 Watts), 115 V, 60Hz, 1PH (Model #: FFRA0622U10)? I need a generator for the warmer weather just for the AC since my home outlet is out and electricians are not servicing my home due to covid 19 for rewiring right now as per my landlord. Let me know if yes or no and if so, how long can it power it for before recharge is needed?

Thanks for reaching out to us!

Our Nature’s Generator Elite would be the best option for you. You unfortunately will need more Power Pod Elites also due to the amount of power your 6,000 BTU AC System requires. Depending how long you are looking to run the AC plus other devices would determine how many additional Power Pods you will need.

    Thanks,Nature’s Generator Support Team

Will this new unit have the ability to replace its onboard battery like the older model? I see it’s a 3,600 w inverter but what is the continuous run wattage?

I just hooked up one of your systems for a friend. There are 2 240 watt panels available, but I only hooked up one. Is 300 watts the max you can use? Thank you, and it is a very nice system.

Thank you for reaching out. Yes, the maximum solar input of a Nature’s Generator Elite is 300w. However, we highly suggest you use a Nature’s Generator 100w solar panel because it will void the warranty of the generator in case it got damaged using third-party solar panels. Gracias!!

Thank you for reaching out. It will depend on the total wattage of the appliances you’re going to use on your generator to get an approximate runtime using your generator. Also, using a 400-watt solar panel might damage your generator since the solar input of an Elite generator is only 300 watts max. If you have any follow-up questions, you may reach our support directly via (800) 975-7909, or email us at support@naturesgenerator.com. We’ll be more than happy to assist you!

Will the Nature’s Generator Elite start and run a 1HP well pump. If so, would we be able to run anything else simultaneously (like a 15,000 BTU RV Air Conditioner), or would we need to wire 2 Elite generators together?

Thanks for reaching out with your concern. The Elite generator can run any 120v appliances and as long as the wattage is not exceeding the maximum wattage of the Elite which is 3600-watt and you cannot connect 2 elite generators together. If your 1hp well pump only use 120v, it will be compatible. Also, since a 15000 BTU is approximately 4,396 watts, the RV air conditioner will not be compatible. You can check the powerhouse generator system since it can support 240v appliances and the maximum wattage output is 7200-watt. Thank you for reaching out. It will affect the operation of the generator if the temperature goes below or above the operating temperature of the generator which is 32-104 °F (0-40 °C). Snow will not affect the charging of your generator, it will still depend on the strength of the sunlight if you’re charging it via a solar panel or the wind speed if you’re charging it via a wind turbine. Hello I have the ac! Alert beeping when in use. Is there a reboot or anything I can do to have it stop beeping. Thank you

Thanks for your query! If the generator starts beeping, it indicated that the generator is low on charge. Unfortunately, we cannot stop the beeping sound since that is a safety feature to avoid the generator from getting depleted. Kindly make sure that the generator is on optimal charge before using it, you can charge the generator using AC input for 24 hours to make sure. CES is among the largest tech events in the world, with numerous advancements in renewable technologies such as solar this year.

Growatt, for example, unveiled two portable battery banks with LiFePO4 chemistry for off-grid use. The Vita 550 is the most portable option, featuring a 538 Wh battery capacity, 600 W AC output, and 11 outlets of various configurations that allow users to power most devices.

The devices offer 1.6-hour AC charging speed and support up to 800 W of solar input. They can be fully charged on solar in 2.5 hours, with customizable features like adjustable lighting and optional fast and slow charging. The Watt feature allows the banks to extend beyond their 600 W limit and power devices up to 1,050 W.

Growatt said the Vita 550 can power a light bulb for 15 hours or run a 70 W fan for 6.5 hours. The company said the device is durable through 3,000 charge cycles.

For a larger, yet still portable battery bank, the Jackery Solar Generator 3000 Pro offers several features for off-grid flexibility. The devices can be charged with six SolarSaga 200 W panels, charging in three to four hours on solar and about two and a half hours with AC input. The solar cells are built with interdigitated back contact (IBC) technology to boost production on cloudy days, early mornings, and late evenings.
