Best solar panel LG vs Best solar panel JA: By A1SolarStore

What are the best panels made by LG and JA Solar? Let’s compare a couple of models by two brands side by side.

    LG NeON H series

LG H series panels are designed for small commercial or large residential systems. Here is a panel with 450 watt output and 20.5% efficiency. It features a half-cut cell design for better shading tolerance. The panel has 144 half-cut N-type cells and retains over 90% of its output after 25 years.

    JA Solar 405W 144 Cell

The panel provides 405 Watts of power output and reaches a 20.2% energy conversion rate. Half-cut cells make the panel sturdier and increase shading resistance. The busbars improve electricity flow and PERC technology brings efficiency up while keeping production costs low. Frequently asked questions about solar panels

    How do solar panels work?

Most residential solar panel systems utilise something called the photovoltaic effect. Solar panels are constructed of cells made with semiconducting materials such as silicon. When light hits the cells, photons in the electromagnetic radiation from the sun heat them up, which causes electrons to start moving. This movement creates an electric current, which is then captured by plates and wires within the solar panel in the form of a direct current (DC) electrical charge. An inverter connected to the solar panels converts the DC into alternating current (AC), which can then be used to power all of the electric appliances in your house.

    Are solar panels worth it?

In short, yes—solar panels can be a worthwhile investment thanks to a number of factors, including a decrease in cost over the last decade, the savings that can be made on rapidly rising energy bills, income from excess electricity sold back to the grid via the Smart Export Guarantee, and advancements in solar panel technology that have made them more efficient using less space.

Do solar panels work in the UK?

While the amount of electricity that can be produced by solar panels varies in different parts of the UK—a system in the south of England will typically be more efficient than a system in Scotland, for instance—they do work well across the nation. It is said that if you can see outside without artificial light, your solar panels are working. This is because they do not need direct sunlight to work. This means solar panels work even in the rain, on cloudy days, and during the winter when it is snowing—all typical weather conditions seen throughout the UK.

    What is JA Solar?

There are only a few names that really dominate the solar panel global market, and JA Solar Holdings Co. is one of them. The photovoltaics company has shipped over 95 GW’s worth of product in its lifetime — for context, that’s over half of what the world installed in all of 2021 (168 GW). 2

JA Solar’s residential solar panels are high-efficiency monocrystalline modules that pack a punch. Much of JA Solar’s success stems from the affordability of its technology relative to the power and efficiency the products generate. The renewable energy company’s bankability has attracted customers and investors for years.

The power of JA’s PV modules lies in its PERC solar cell technology with half-cell configuration. PERC technology (passivated emitter and rear contact), a fancy way of saying an additional layer on the back of the traditional solar cells, has become relatively common in the most efficient solar panels. Half-cell configurations involve separating a panel into two halves that can operate independently to account for shading or malfunctions on the other half.

For the purposes of this article, we’ll stick to outlining JA Solar’s residential products, specifications, warranty and pros and cons.

What Products Does JA Solar Offer?

JA Solar’s solar modules come in sizes ranging from 54-cell to 72-cell. Measuring a module by its cell count is a way of understanding its size. Larger cell counts like JA’s JAM72S10, a 72-cell module, are used for industrial or commercial applications while 60-cell panels are ideal for the average residential installation.

JA offers two types of 60-cell residential modules: 60-cell MBB half-cell modules and 60-cell bifacial PERC half-cell double glass modules.

JA Solar 60-Cell MBB Half-Cell Modules

The 60-cell MBB half-cell modules are JA Solar’s standard residential solar option — the name refers to its multi-busbar (MBB) Mono PERC cell technology with half-cut cell configuration. This technology provides JA’s stellar efficiency at levels above 20% — ideal for residential projects.

There are two different 60-cell MBB half-cell modules: the JAM60S10/MR and the JAM60S20/MR. The latter has slightly better power and efficiency ratings.

JA Solar also offers its 54-cell modules for budget-conscious customers with low power needs. Availability will depend on your installer, however.

JA Solar 60-Cell Bifacial PERC Half-Cell Double Glass Modules

There are only a few subtle differences between the 60-cell MBB and the bifacial half-cell double glass modules. Both are equally high-performance options. Bifacial solar panels use an additional layer of solar cells instead of a traditional backsheet.

As far as customers are concerned, the only difference of note is that the bifacial double glass modules are covered by a 30-year rather than a 25-year linear power output guarantee.

There are two different 60-cell Bifacial PERC half-cell modules: the JAM60D10/MB and the JAM60D20/MB, described in the table below. The JAM60D20/MB has more power and a nominally lower efficiency rating.

    About JA Solar, Solar Panels

JA Solar is a Chinese company that is one of the largest manufacturers of solar panels in the world.

JA Solar has an Australian office located in Newcastle, which means there are people in the country you can contact in case you have a problem. As their panels are salt mist corrosion resistant, they are suitable for installation anywhere in Australia.

JA Solar Pushing To Be Planet’s Most Prolific PV Panel Producer

JA Solar states it has shipped 115 gigawatts of solar panels (cumulative) as late 2022. In early 2022, it was noted as the equal second biggest shipper of panels in the world for the previous year, behind Longi.

    JA Solar Production Facilities

The bulk of JA Solar panel manufacturing capacity consists of 9 factories in China. Four near the giant metropolis of Shanghai and 2 in the vast Beijing conurbation. They also have a 400 megawatt facility in Malaysia, which is handy for avoiding US tariffs on Chinese made panels, and they have a 200 megawatt assembly plant in Vietnam.

    JA Solar Panels Efficiency

JA Solar panels currently available in Australia and listed on our solar panel comparison table have a conversion efficiency of between 19.6% for the JAMS20 365W and 21.5% for their JAMS54 420W monocrystalline module, both of which are very respectable for solar panels at this end of the pricing spectrum.

Unlike some solar panel manufacturers, JA Solar don’t cheat by not including the frame in the efficiency calculation.

Also quite respectable is JA Solar panels’ temperature coefficient, which for the panel models mentioned above is.0.35%/°C.

You can find specifications and approximate Australian pricing of various JA modules on SolarQuotes panel comparison table.

    JA Solar’s Bankability

As we saw back in 2008, independent surveys of companies’ financial health are a vital part of completely failing to prevent economic disasters.

In order to further improve our ability to fail to avoid economic disasters, each year Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF) performs a survey to estimate the financial health of solar manufacturers. This is done by basically determining how likely lenders would be to accept a solar farm using a particular manufacturer’s modules as collateral for a loan.

In 2014 JA Solar came 3rd out of 11 companies on this measure of bankability. And in 2016 they came 6th out of 15 companies putting them into the top 40% of all those surveyed.

Fast-forward to 2021, and the BloombergNEF (BNEF) 2021 PV module bankability survey indicated JA Solar remained in the top tier of PV module manufacturers in terms of financial stability.

JA Solar And The Hemlock Saga

Hemlock, an oddly named US silicon producer, was attempting to sue JA Solar for close to one billion US dollars, but the two companies arrived at a settlement back in 2016. As part of the settement, JA Solar entered into a new Long-Term Supply Agreement whereby it was to buy solar grade polycrystalline silicon products from Hemlock on a quarterly basis until October 31, 2026.

The original dispute arose after JA Solar had agreed to purchase 103.5 million US worth of silicon from Hemlock and decided not to do that after silicon fell and they could get it more cheaply elsewhere. Rather than sue them for US 103.5 million for breaking their promise and screwing them over, Hemlock decided to sue for almost one billion US dollars instead, because of optimism, I guess.

    JA Solar Goes Private

In July 2018, the company announced the completion of its merger with JASO Acquisition Limited and that it had ceased to be a publicly traded company.

    JA Solar Warranty

JA Solar panels available in Australia carry a 12-year product warranty. While 12 years was once standard for panels in this pricing range (toward the budget end of the market), price comparable competitors are increasingly shifting to a 25-year product warranty. Perhaps it won’t be long before JA Solar joins this club.

I Am Fine With Recommending JA Solar Panels

JA Solar panels are reliable and cost effective. While they had dropped a little on bankability scores in the past, it is not really possible to draw any firm conclusions from that about how likely they are to remain in existence as a company; but its more recent result was encouraging. The fact the company has tier 1 status indicates they are considered to be a reliable manufacturer that will probably stick around.
