ITEHIL battery is LiFePO4, and just spend 400 to get it, I think that’s cost-effective, while Jackery old ternary lithium battery still needs 500.

Wile living in Florida I realized that I needed a back-up for the generator. Yeah the generator will keep my fridge and freezer working, but it doesn’t really address the need to recharge Smart phones and power a small fan if the power goes out. So originally I did order and purchase a cheaper power supply from a unknown brand. And as soon as I saw this and read about it here on this site. I immediately sent the other brand back and bought this one. So very impressed. Charges fast and everything worked and no defects. It’s a beauty and a keeper. The display gives a lot more information than what others give. And the outer shell is very sturdy and the handle. Although I was worried about the handle because of the weight of the power supply (it’s not that heavy). But after looking at it and seeing how the handle is connected I quickly realized that it’s nothing to worry about and that it won’t break while I’m transporting the unit from place to place. As for questions I had? I was quickly responded to with answers from Ivy (great person). I do wish it had cover plugs for the outlets or a carrying case so I can store it and not worry about it except to recharge it every so often. I’m very happy with the price and quality of this item and the other stuff I purchased here on this site. Also regarding a quick delivery. I wouldn’t pay the extra 19.99 cost for a faster service because the shipping/delivery service and Covid has slowed things down. So just be patient and it will get to you within 5-8 days. Don’t forget to download the warranty and instruction manual for the power supply and solar panel.

On a quick note you can put a outlet plug protector in the ac outlets. That’s what I’m going to do anyway. It’s a cheap and easy solution that will give me peace of mind.

I like that this ITEHIL IT500 has a LiFeP04 battery (should be durable). I bought this unit with a discount coupon so felt it was a good value. We’ve had one power outage since we received this unit. it works with about a total 200w load (fan, several LED lights) and the outage lasted about 3 hours. The battery was barely drained and the unit was pretty quiet while running. and I noticed something interesting, it turns out that leaving the front panels turned off when there’s nothing plugged into them, it does appear to automatically turn off. So I asked the seller how long the battery can last without any output. They told me it will last 3-5 years, but for battery life, it needs to be recharged every three months. That’s mean after the first full charge, they stay ready when we need them any time. It’s a great emergency power station for us.

This power station checks all the boxes. I ran a CPAP machine for 4 nights (8 hours) and still had 10% left in the power station after the 4th night.

I heard about this on Pinball Preparedness when he did a review of the 500, I knew this was just what I needed ! Small, enough out put to run my fans, computer and internet service ! And maybe charge a phone. It does all that with power to spare !! Every one doesnt need to run a whole house on a generator, or even a freezer or fridge. This one really fits the bill for a lower power need. Ans at a great price. I would have locked a better manual, but since I saw it on pinball, I just reviewed his video. I do still have a question ,Should I leave it plugged in to the wall after fully charged or should it be un plugged ? It really is a great little generator, perfect for my needs. It even powered my basic sewing machine.

I used my Patriot Power Generator during Hurricane Ian. I find regular generators annoying, but this ran my fan quietly all night, and nothing in my freezer went bad! I’ve already had quite a few people ask me where I got this. I tell them, instead of having to worry about gas or propane, Florida’s got the sun — hello! Use it!

    I Feel Secure Having This

“The Patriot Power Generator handles my lights, AC if I need it, a small heater, my microwave and my TV. I also have a small refrigerator I can plug in. I put my solar panels on the trailer hitch and recharge while I use my generator inside.

I’ve used a gas generator before and spent 50 for gas for 3 days. But the Patriot Power Generator can go inside while I sleep, and I don’t have to worry about anything. I feel a lot more comfortable.

I’m really glad I made the investment. Don’t think about it too long. JUST DO IT.”

The Best Solar Generator For Off-Grid Living

We may earn commission through affiliate links on this page at no additional cost to you. See Disclaimer for details.

Have you considered going entirely off the grid? I’ve been considering disconnecting from power stations and adopting a clean energy lifestyle and off-grid living. One of my main concerns is what I can use as a reliable power source for my off-grid home. With so many solar generators on the market, finding the best solar generator for off-grid living can be challenging, so I’ve compiled a buyer’s guide to the best solar generators for off-grid living conditions.

About Solar Generators For Off-Grid Living

When choosing the best solar generator, there are a few factors to consider. These include the cost, the longevity, and how much power the user needs. For example, choosing portable solar generators for camping will be entirely different from choosing the best solar generator to power an off-grid home.

It can be challenging to choose which generator is best for off-grid living. The more I searched for the best solar generators, the more questions I was left with. To help in guiding your choices I’ve answered the main questions below like “which size solar generator is the most powerful” and “how much power do I need for my off-grid cabin or home”.

    Read on to discover more…

    What Is A Solar Generator?

Solar generators convert energy from the sun into electrical power output. Most solar generators can be used for a variety of purposes, including powering homes, businesses, and vehicles.

An off-grid Solar generator is becoming an increasingly popular choice as more people look for ways to reduce their reliance on fossil fuels and move towards renewable energy sources. They are also relatively easy to set up and use, making them a great option for those who are looking for an alternative to traditional generators.

    How Do Solar Generators Work?

Solar generators work by using solar panels to convert sunlight into electrical energy. This electrical energy is then stored in external batteries, which can be used to power devices or appliances when needed. Most solar generators can be used to power a wide range of electronic devices, including lights, computers, TVs, and refrigerators.

What Are The Benefits Of Solar Generators?

There are many benefits of solar power generators, including the fact that they are more environmentally friendly than traditional generators as they do not produce emissions or pollution like the energy you get using on-grid power stations.

They are much quieter than traditional generators, so you can enjoy peace and quiet when you are using them. The best solar generators can also be used in a variety of settings, including homes. They can also be used to power and charge multiple devices and appliances.

Can A Solar Generator Power An Entire Off The Grid Home?

Even the best solar generator may not be able to provide all power for a typical home. Still, if an off-grid home has minimal appliances and electronic devices, a solar generator may be able to provide sufficient power output capacity.

The best way to see if a solar generator can power a home is to calculate the number of watts used daily and the heaviest load.

According to the EIA, the average home in the US uses 900kWh per month. So based on this calculation, a solar generator needed for an off-grid home should be 2000 kW with lithium-ion batteries backup of 2000 Wh.

If planning on living entirely off the grid, I recommend getting a battery that can hold many charges and handle large household appliances.

It’s not only the battery that counts but also the type of solar panel. Buying optimum quality, powerful panels is better than having to purchase additional solar panels that are of inferior quality.

The appliances in an off-grid home are the key thing in determining if you can live with an off-grid solar generator. If using portable solar generators for off-grid extended camping trips, a basic generator that can charge devices and power small appliances will be sufficient. But to use solar power for an entire home can be difficult.

How Big A Generator And How Many Solar Panels Do You Need To Live Off-Grid?

The amount of solar power needed for living off-grid living depends on the amount of electricity used. Finding the best solar generator to suit your needs is essential, but the number of panels needed is even more critical.

When setting up an off-grid home with solar-powered generators, I recommend calculating how many solar panels are required to power an off-grid home.

To calculate the size of solar panel array you need, calculate the following:

    • The amount of roof space available to install the panels?
    • The amount of direct sunlight the panels will receive?
    • What type of panels are going to be purchased?
    • How much solar power or energy usage does the off-the-grid home have?

Larger solar panels offer better performance compared to smaller ones. The recommended solar panels needed for off-grid living are 200-watt panels.

Each off-grid home has power requirements, and determining how much energy and how many solar panels are needed can be complex. However, the below table provides a general overview of a solar system setup and the number of panels required.

Solar System Set Up To Power An Off The Grid Home

Solar System Size Average Spent On Electricity Per Month Amount Of 200-watt Solar Panels Needed
    5 kW 60 26 panels
    10 kW 120 52 panels
    20 kW 240 105 panels
    50 kW 600 255 panels
    100 kW 1200 510 panels

Emergency Backup Power – Which is the best backup power source for an off-grid system?

The answer to this question depends on a few factors, including personal preference, budget, and availability of resources. Sunlight is not guaranteed in all parts of the country and this is the biggest Achilles heel for renewable power systems like solar and could cause power outage problems.

If you are banking on solar to be your only source of energy, then you need to have a backup plan for when the sun isn’t shining. For example, if you are someone who values being eco-friendly, then a battery backup system that can store solar power for days or weeks when the sun isn’t shining would probably be the best option for you.

However, if you are someone who is on a tight budget, or values convenience and cost-effectiveness, then using a backup system that uses fossil fuels like natural or propane gas generators might be a better option.

No matter what backup system you choose, make sure that you have a plan in place for when the solar power system can’t produce enough reliable power. To sum up, there is no one “best” backup power source for an off-grid setup. It ultimately depends on your individual needs and preferences.

You may struggle to power anything other than a small off-grid dwelling with 100% solar energy alone. A hybrid system incorporating a few energy sources e.g A wind turbine, all feeding into the same battery system may be a viable option though.

A few of the best options for solar in my opinion include the Bluetti AC200P, EcoFlo Delta, and the Jackery 1000.

Purchasing the right solar generator can be quite an investment for off-grid life. Although the upfront costs are steep, the benefits are numerous.

Portable solar generators are a quiet, green solution to powering up during electrical outages or off-grid excursions. The best generators vary in size, power, and battery storage capacity.

What to Consider When Choosing the Best Solar Generator

While shoppers search for the best solar-powered generators available for home or travel, they will want to consider the intended use. How and where they plan on using a solar generator will determine the size, power, and capacity of the unit they’ll need.

    Purpose and User Activity

The reasons for purchasing a solar-power generator may be different for everyone, so it’s important for shoppers to zero in on their purpose for purchasing a solar generator and the activities they hope to accomplish with it. Solar generators are useful for anyone who travels and stays in remote places that are off-grid. Conversely, shoppers may simply desire a reliable backup source of energy for their home to prepare for the occurrence of a natural or man-made disaster.

If the primary purpose is travel, look for solar generators that help make traveling simpler. RV connectivity allows users to power appliances when they’re on the road. Car-charging capabilities make it convenient for travelers to drive and charge their solar generators without having to stop and set up solar panels.

    Size and Solar Input

Shoppers choosing the appropriate size solar generator for their needs will need to keep in mind battery capacity and power requirements so that they avoid overloading it. Most solar generators can keep portable electronics, smartphones, tablets, power tools, small appliances, and cordless tools powered up for hours. However, buyers may need a separate generator, say, to keep a refrigerator running for an entire day.

Solar input refers to the solar panels. The solar panels collect and convert sunlight into energy that is stored in the generator’s battery. Ample solar input controls a generator’s operating time and how long it takes to recharge.

The solar panels used in conjunction with a portable solar generator are mobile and easy to manipulate. Unlike the panels found on residential or commercial properties, they are smaller in size and have a lower wattage capacity, which means less solar input than their larger counterparts.

    Power Requirements

The output of power from a solar generator should match shoppers’ electrical needs. Battery power is measured in watts, which is the maximum amount of power a generator provides when it’s running. Battery capacity—referred to as watt-hours—is the total amount of stored energy.

When the generator is in operation, the watts represent the rate of power flowing from its battery to an electrical device, and the watt-hours are the maximum level of energy it can deliver. For example, a solar generator with 500Wh can store a total of 500W when it’s fully charged. Thus, a 500W solar generator is only able to power electrical appliances and devices that don’t exceed 500W to run.

    Battery Storage Capacity

The battery in a solar generator is where the energy captured from the solar panel is stored for later use. Solar generators usually have lithium-ion or lead-acid batteries. Battery storage allows users to run the generator at night or on days with limited sunlight.

The capacity of the batteries determines the duration of the generator. The more power an electronic device requires, the faster the battery charge will run out. The length of the battery charge is also based on the number of devices drawing power from the generator at the same time.

A larger battery capacity is necessary to power electrical appliances that require higher watts. Lower capacity is sufficient for lights, cell phones, and laptops. For instance, a 500W solar generator can power an LED light for 100 hours, while it will only power a mini-fridge for about 10 hours.

    itehil, lifepo4, 500w, 500wh, solar

    Inverter Rating

Direct current and alternating current are the two forms of electricity. DC is electricity that flows only in a forward direction. AC is electricity that flows both forward and backward. The energy harnessed by solar panels is DC. A solar generator inverter converts low DC power from the batteries to AC power for usage.

The inverter rating translates to the maximum watts a solar generator can extract at any time. For example, a 1,500W inverter can draw up to that amount of wattage in AC power. Keep in mind that the inverter size or rating doesn’t always correlate to a solar generator’s overall firepower. Battery storage is also important.

    Expandability of Power

Eventually, users may want to expand the capability of their solar generator, especially if they find they need more power. However, upgrading a solar generator is not always feasible.

Expanding power is based on the sustainability of the charge controller, which sends power in one direction from the solar panels to the batteries. As the integral component of the solar generator, the primary job of the charge controller is to protect the durability of the batteries.

The charge controller can only process the maximum number of watts and voltage that it’s built to manage, so users may not be able to expand beyond its charging ability. If battery capacity doesn’t support additional solar panels, power expandability is unachievable.

    Types of Solar Generators

For individuals who live in areas with frequent power outages, a generator allows them to have an interim source of electricity. Two types of solar generators are available for at-home use: solar backup generators and portable solar generators. Both generators provide solar power but differ in terms of wattage capacity, energy storage, and cost.

    Solar Backup Generators

Solar backup generators are designed to power up when the electrical grid fails and are an efficient alternative to installing a complete system. These generators use several batteries to store energy for high-wattage output. They provide sufficient backup power to turn on lights, televisions, computers, and small to midsize appliances.

Typically, it takes less than 48 hours to charge a solar backup generator to full capacity, but the time can vary depending on the size of the solar panels and the amount of sunlight. Buyers can keep these generators either indoors or outdoors. The disadvantage of solar backup generators is their weight, making them somewhat difficult to move. Additionally, a generator that is large enough to power an entire residence is expensive.

    Portable Solar Generators

Portable solar generators are lightweight, so users can take them anywhere. They are ideal for homes, cabins, campsites, RVs, cars, and boats. Some generators are equipped with a pull handle or attached handgrip for effortless transporting. Solar panels recharge the battery in a portable solar generator.

Portable solar generators do have drawbacks. They may either have inadequate wattage capacity to power larger appliances, such as refrigerators, dishwashers, washing machines, hot water heaters, and sump pumps, or may not be capable of powering multiple devices at the same time.

If they use low-wattage solar panels, it may take a long time to recharge the generator. On the plus side, portable solar generators don’t emit noise or carbon dioxide, are affordable, and are low maintenance, unlike gas generators.

Tips for Using a Solar Generator

With a multitude of solar generators from which to choose, shoppers may find it difficult to decide which one fits their requirements. To begin, they will want to pinpoint how and where they plan to use it.

Solar generators are available in a variety of sizes with various wattage and storage capacities. They are primarily for powering homes during electrical outages or for outdoor activities like camping, hunting, sailing, fishing, and traveling. Solar generators are also an ideal power source for outdoor events, such as parties, festivals, craft fairs, and farmer’s markets.

How much shoppers want to spend on a solar generator is another important consideration. As solar generators increase in size and capacity, so does the price. Keep in mind that most solar generators don’t include solar panels, so that extra purchase will add to the expense.

    • The solar generator should match shoppers’ intended purpose.
    • It’s important to select the appropriate size, wattage, and storage capacity for usage.
    • Focus on the features that suit an individual’s plans for the generator, such as the number of plug-in ports, charging speed, portability, carrying handle, flashlight, expandability, and weight.

The Advantages of Owning a Solar Generator

Owning a solar generator frees users from dependency on fossil fuels when they want a back-up system for emergencies, traveling, or camping. Plus, solar generators are portable and compact, so they are easy to store and move, unlike huge gas-powered generators.

Solar generators are also quieter, safer, and require minimal maintenance since they don’t have motors, moving parts, or emit harmful carbon dioxide. This alternative kind of generator is a green solution that collects energy from the sun to store in its battery and then produces power when it’s in operation.

The charging rate and power capability of a solar generator depend on its size, so shoppers will want to consider carefully where they’ll want to use it and how many electrical devices and appliances they want it to power.

    • No fuel is needed to operate a solar generator.
    • It’s a clean, renewable source of energy.
    • A solar generator is low maintenance.

It makes sense to own a solar generator so you’re not left without source of power either during an electrical outage at home or simply while enjoying outdoor activities and travel. The portability of solar generators makes them ideal for packing and toting on trips, and they’re especially handy for stowing and using in RVs, cars, boats, and cabins.
