kW Solar System Brisbane | Ideal systems for every budget

Find out whether a 10kw solar system is suitable for your Brisbane home, and what the ideal system based on your budget.

You live in a decent sized home and consume a moderate amount of electricity everyday. You’ve decided that you want a solar system, but not sure if a 10 KW system is right for your home. This will help you know more about the 10 KW solar system and its different packages.

How big is a 10kW system?

Typically, a 10kW system uses an inverter with a maximum output power of 8kW, and has enough panels to generate 10.6kW of electricity. Generally speaking, each panel is rated at around 330W, and so the total number of panels in the system is 32, which totals to 10600W or 10.6kW.

Inverter size smaller than total panels?

As a result, your panels will very rarely generate their maximum capacity.

How Do I Know if the 10KW System is Ideal for Me

If you have a budget for any solar system size, it would be best if you chose one that will give you the maximum benefit without wastage. Think about the following factors before concluding on a 10kW system.

    Your Power Consumption

A 10kW solar system usually produces around 25kWh a day.

If your home consumes significantly less power than this, then perhaps a smaller solar system may not be worth it for you, such as a 6kW solar system.

If you are consuming between 15kWh and 25kWh, then a 10kW solar may be ideal.

If you are consuming higher than 25kWh, then a 13kW system may be more suitable.

How do you tell how much electricity you’re using? You can check on your bill.

    Your Electricity Bill

Your bill will definitely show you how much energy you’re consuming on a daily basis. However, if you don’t have your bill handy, perhaps you know off the top of your head how much you’re paying for your bills?

Generally speaking, if you pay less than 80 a month on electricity, solar may not be worth it for you.

But if you pay 150 to 250 a month, a 10kW system would be ideal.

A 10kW system is suited for households that does consume a moderate amount of electricity. If the following description fits you, then you will benefit from a 10kW system.

    • Your home consists of 3-5 occupants
    • You use air conditioning moderately
    • You use electrical heating moderately
    • Your oven is used on a semi-regular basis
    • Your clothes are hung out to dry rather than using an electric dryer
    • You use your dishwasher regularly
    • You work from home and your occupation uses a lot of electricity

    Your Budget

Each home has different, and each installation is different. Depending on your state, and when you are getting solar installed, your rebates may be different.

A general rule of thumb is the cost of the full installation including the inverter is 1/w.

So a 6kW system will cost you about 8,000. 12,000.

However, costs are coming down quickly.

    Your roof space

Even if all the factors above lead you to believe you need a 10kW system or larger, the amount of roof space on your home will heavily dictate whether you can fit it all.

Each panel is around 1762mm x 994mm, which is 1.75m2

So to fit 32, your roof will need at least 55m2.

Not only that, they should ideally be north facing and have minimal shading from nearby trees.

How Much Can You Save With a 10kW Solar System?

Your savings will depend on your power consumption.

A household with a medium energy usage consuming between 15 to 25kWh a day will likely pay about 2181 without solar.

With solar, such families can save about 2752 reducing their electricity bill and earning about 570 per year by selling back to the grid.

The table below shows an estimated energy consumption, electricity bills, and savings of different types of households.

    Low Energy-Consuming HouseholdMedium Energy-Consuming HouseholdHigh Energy-Consuming Household
Daily Power Usage Less than 15kWh 15kWh. 25kWh than 25kWh
Annual Electricity Bill Without Solar 1,655 2,181 2,708

    Savings 2,672 2,752 2,827

    Product Packages

There are three different packages available for a 6kW solar panel. The significant difference in the packages is the choice of the panel and the inverter.

We have put together these packages for you based on years of experience and plenty of feedback from our clients.

The lower cost options have fewer features and are generally lesser known brand. However, it does not mean they are lower in terms of quality. All these packages will work just fine for you.

    Quality on a Budget

Quality on a Budget is for families who want to save without losing too much on quality. Although its output power is lower than those of other packages, it is still good enough for the desired result. Also, the durability may not be as much as that of other packages, but they are guaranteed to last for many years.

    kW Solar System And Information

If you’re thinking of buying a 10kW solar system in 2023, then you probably have a good-sized roof and significant electricity bill! Or perhaps you have an electric car or are looking ahead to an EV purchase.

A 10kW solar system is about as big as residential systems get, practically speaking. Below is photo of an older 10kW system. There was no space left to waste on this installation! However, note this photo was taken some years ago.

Solar panels installed for 10kW systems in 2023 are significantly more efficient and pack more power into a smaller overall footprint, so not as much roof space is required as it once was. Here’s an example – still 10kW but around half the number of panels; although they are a bit larger in terms of physical dimensions:

    24 x 415 Watt panels on 2 roof faces in this 2022 10kW installation.

How many solar panels will you need for 10kW?

To make up a 10kW solar system you need 24 solar panels, assuming you use 415W panels – that will give you 9.96kW.

Each panel will be about 1.8m x 1.1m, so you’ll need at least 46m2 of roof space.

To provide an idea of how much space that is, this picture may help.

How much electricity will a 10kW solar system generate?

A 10kW solar system will generate approximately 40kWh per day on average – that works out to be 14,600 kilowatt-hours a year. It’s a lot of electricity and enough to run 2-3 average Australian households; or one really inefficient household!

To put it in perspective, 40kWh per day will power:

Approx 2x ducted air conditioning systems on a hot (or cold) day.

4 small pool pumps for 10 hours per day.

40 x 5 star energy rated fridges with the freezer on top or below (not side-by-side; those suckers use a lot more energy).

How much will a 10kW solar system save on electricity bills?

The amount you’ll save on electricity bills with a 10kW system will depend on how much you get paid for exported electricity (solar feed in tariffs) and how much you self consume.

Feed in tariffs in Australia pay anywhere from 3c to 20c, depending on the state and retailer. Let’s work on 8c per kWh for exported electricity. Most people pay about 30c per kWh to buy electricity from the grid. So let’s consider 3 scenarios to see how the payback works:

    1) Use all the solar electricity in your (huge) home or business: You would save approximately 4500 in the first year. But 100% self-consumption for a household is unlikely; there will be times when your 10kW system is exporting to the grid.

    2) Export half the electricity: You would save about 2700 in the first year.

    3) Export all the electricity: You would save about 1000 in the first year.

Moral of the story: The more solar you self consume, the faster your payback.

How much does a 10kW solar power system cost in 2023?

You should get about 3,960 in STCs (AKA the solar rebate). So expect to pay about 8,500 – 13,000 out of costs for a good quality 10kW solar system in 2023, professionally installed by a reputable installer.

That’s quite a price range – the reason is the cost of a 10kW solar system will depend on the type of components used. At the upper end of the price range it will be top of the line panels, inverter and racking installed by a particularly fussy installer. At the lower end, you should still get good quality components (but do your research). Be wary of systems below the bottom end of this price range – there can be a high cost associated with cheap solar in terms of problems down the track.

How long before a 10kW solar power system pays for itself?

Payback will depend on feed-in tariff and self-consumption, but it’s reasonable to expect a 10kW solar system (assuming it’s suitable for your situation) will have paid for itself in around 5-6 years. After that the electricity is free apart from a small maintenance cost – expect to pay a few hundred dollars every 5 years for an inspection – and a replacement inverter every 12 – 15 years.

kW Solar System UK: Price, How Much Does It Produce, How Big, and

An 10 kw solar system for the right home or business should save around £54600 over the course of its expected 25 year lifetime. That’s based on grid electric costing £0.34/ kWh (last updated October 2022). That’s roughly £2183 per year in savings, without taking into account inflation or rising electric (which both add to your savings if you invest in solar soon).

    Rising Electric Costs

The cost of electricity in the UK has consistently ‘outperformed’ inflation. You can see the last few seasons of price rises in this chart of Ofgem’s price cap rises:

The amount that electricity costs continue to rise will have a large impact on whether you decide if solar is worth it for you in the UK.

    Smart Export Guarantee

The Smart Export Guarantee replaces the older Feed in Tariff scheme. It allows you to get paid for excess energy that your 10 kw solar system produces but you don’t directly use yourself, for example if you’re out during the day when it’s sunny.

Currently you can expect to get up to 15p per kWh of electricity you ‘export’, so for a 10 Kw solar system, with typical usage patterns, you could expect to receive around £765 per year in payments under this scheme. This rate is available at the time of writing from Octopus Energy.

    Electricity Savings

One of the main reasons to consider getting an 10 kW solar system is to save money by directly using the electricity it produces during the day, instead of paying the utility company. The more of your own ‘self generated’ electricity you use instead of buying it or paying for petrol if you’re also buying an electric car, the higher your savings.

With a properly sized 10 kW solar system, you can expect to save around £1418 per year by using your own solar energy.

    kW Solar Panel System Price

An 10 kW solar system (without a battery) typically costs around £12000 in the UK. That’s including installation and VAT.

kW Solar Systems – 7 Questions You Would Be Crazy Not To Have Answered Before You Buy

The solar power system is considered the cheapest form of energy compared to standard electricity. Installation of a solar power system is a wise decision, as it is energy-efficient and cost-effective. Installing 10kW solar systems is the best for homes, small farms, and ranches. Investing in it will never be worthless because you will find it beneficial in many ways, such as installation, energy-saving, reduction in power bills, multi-purpose usage, advanced power grid security, and many more.

Solar power systems are highly preferred in the Southwest US, South Africa, and Southeast Australia. The rise in concern for power saving and cost-effectiveness is driving the demand for a solar system. However, there are seven essential factors to recognize before investing in solar.

Things To Know Before Installing 10Kw Solar Systems

A 10kW solar power system can be an excellent investment for Melbourne households whose a higher energy consumption level. This system will be best suitable for homes with higher power-consuming electric appliances. Before purchasing the solar system, here are some necessary things to know about it.

#1 How Much Electric Power Does It Generate?

It is necessary to know about the electricity production by the 10kw solar system so that you can understand its efficiency when you have a lot of electronic appliances at your home. This system generates 10,000 watts of electric current per hour. Therefore, it can be broken down to an average of 40 kWh per day. Thus, if you are concerned about the power bill, reduce the energy usage below 30kWh.

#2 What Is The Cost Of A 10kw Solar Power System?

The cost of a 10Kw solar system varies based on panel quality and other factors such as property location, roof type, and many more. So, the price range cannot be said accurately, and it comes in different packages. But it is assured that the 10Kw solar system is budget-friendly.

It is recommended to choose higher-quality panels to get optimal energy throughout its usage, and it is long-lasting. Therefore, the 10kw solar power will be a significant investment with no loss due to its excellent benefits. Furthermore, the installation price also varies based on packages. Therefore, it is better to FOCUS on monetary gains rather than the installation cost.

#3 What Is The Accurate Roof Space For The System?

Determining the roof space is vital for installation is necessary to decide the number of panels to be fixed. Generally, a 1Kw solar system needs approximately 66 square feet of root space; accordingly, you can determine the area required for a 10Kw solar system. And this system is comprised of 28 to 40 solar panels depending on the efficiency factor.

    solar, system

#4 What Maintenance Needed For 10Kw Solar System?

Solar panels don’t require much maintenance, but essential routine upkeep is necessary to know about their functions and check debris. A few care times are needed to remove dirt particles and debris in a year. In case of any issue in the system, through maintenance, it can be noticed at the earliest. It is recommended to use a cleaning spray to clean the panels. The use of water is restricted to prevent the panels from cracking risk. There are automated cleaner sprays available for cleaning it. In addition, you may use the following tips to keep your solar panels in good condition.

    • Clean solar panels are essential for maximizing energy output. Cleaning the glass on the panels is a straightforward task that may be repeated as needed depending on the amount of grime accumulated. You may clean the panels with a gentle cloth or washrag and biodegradable soap.
    • Once the panels have been installed, you must ensure that no other shadows, such as new high trees, sprouting up since this will reduce the quantity of energy produced by the system. You do not have to chop down trees, but you may trim them to keep the panels from being shadowed.
    • Daily inspections should include checking the inverter display to confirm that it is operating correctly and that the green light is illuminated, failing which you should consult the handbook. Also, keep a daily log of the system’s output to track performance over time.
    • Monthly and quarterly maintenance inspections include inspecting the panels’ cleanliness and the collection of dust and debris under and around the PV array. Annual maintenance checks are more rigorous and should consist of a complete inspection of the entire system to ensure functioning properly.

#5 Is a 10kW system appropriate for your needs?

Understanding what size system is best for you might be challenging, especially if you attempt to overthink it.

    solar, system

If you consume a lot of power and spend more than 600 every quarter, 10kW of solar is an excellent alternative. It will generate enough energy to reduce your electricity cost significantly.

It is also recommended that you think about the future. For example, the next car you buy will probably be electric or a plug-in hybrid, which means you’ll have to use the grid to charge it. The option is to construct a solar system large enough to meet both your present and future demands.
